Welcome!

Thank you for visiting this site.  Your interest in the products created by the artisan groups
supported by Crafts for PEACE is very much appreciated.

Crafts for PEACE believes in :

a.  purchasing crafts created by the artisans at fair prices, and paying 100% of the
     product prices before delivery.
b.  donating directly to the artisans financially, or in kind such as supplies
c.  donating time and talents such as marketing, organization and product development
d.  encouraging collaboration and support amongst the artisans to help each other to learn crafts.
e.  encouraging artisans to extend empowerment to their communities through different projects
f.   building a long lasting friendship with the artisans.
g.  uplifting the artisans and their  work by appropriate, representation of the artisan's culture
h.  purchasing directly from artisan groups headed by a native of the artisans' country

Most of the artisans are working in their homes, and come together for meetings in a church room,  someone's home or under a large tent.  This allows those who are unable to leave home due to
disabilities, or who have younger children continue to provide for their families.  The leaders of the groups go around and collect the crafts when they are due.

Please click on the different links under artisan groups to and read about how the groups were
formed.  Crafts for PEACE is helping disadvantaged women artisans in Uganda to create a sustainable living for themselves and their children.  Proceeds of artisan sales to Crafts for PEACE and other distributors go towards housing, food and school fees.

The Uganda Women Empowerment through Crafts (UWEC) currently has 100 members, and the African Arts Women's Initiatives (AAWI) currently has 26.  Both groups are expanding.  Crafts for Peace is in direct contact with the leaders of UWEC and AAWI who are natives of Uganda. Aside from buying and marketing  the products, they also believe in the importance encouragement and emotional support.  The trade partnership between Crafts for PEACE and the artisans is based on mutual respect, trust, and empowerment.
